Claygate Flower Show 10th July 2021
Our most recent performance was at the Claygate Flower Show which is where it all started.back in 1952. The Thames Valley branch of the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) was asked by the Claygate Flower Show to organise some Morris dancing. A group of local men with help from friends learned and performed four dances. They enjoyed it so much that they met up again in October at The Foley Arms, Claygate for the first of several practice sessions, and the Thames Valley Morris Men were created.
After a damp start in The Parade, we progressed, with stops at the Foley and Hare & Hounds, to the Village Hall for our main display, before finishing at the Griffin.
We have performed every year at the show, and this is a tradition we want to maintain especially as next year will be the 70th anniversary, however in recent years our numbers have reduced as members have retired from dancing or moved away from the area. We urgently need new dancers to join us now so that we can continue. We can teach you and you can be performing by next year to keep Morris dancing in Claygate. We do not want this to be our last Flower Show.
Our main practices start in October, but if you are interested, contact us now and we can get you involved straight away.
